The JSD Foundation is a community sponsor, donating to the annual Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast. As depicted on blackmississippi.com, the memory and legacy of Dr. King is sponsored by the Hinds County Black Legislators, corporate partners and Jackson community service organizations.  This year’s theme was, “Remember! Celebrate! Act, A Day On, Not A Day Off!”

The program called for offerings of prayers for the military, youth, city, state and nation, families, as well as for unity.  Prayer for the military was petitioned by Rev. Jacqueline Luck, Pastor, Unitarian Universalist Church; prayer for the youth, Rev. Michell Perry, Pastor, Hopewell AME Church, Forest, Miss.; prayer for the city, state and nation, Rev. Charles Polk, pastor, St. Luther M.B. Church; prayer for families, The Rev. Marian Fortner, Priest in Charge, St. Christopher Episcopal Church; and prayer for unity, Administrative Elder D. L. Govan, Voice of Calvary Representative Erik Fleming said that one of the things the legislators seek to accomplish with the breakfast is to invoke God’s blessings upon this City and the State of Mississippi.  “Our great corporate and community sponsorship shows that there is hope that this community can always come together,” he said.  “We hope that it continues to build, not just this event, but also throughout all the issues and events that go through the city."
