Black Belt Initiative
Black Belt Initiative
The Black Belt Initiative is a mentorship program that will inspire young Black males in two middle schools, by daring them to be different and having them interact with successful role models. This program will be implemented by the Community Engagement and Empowerment Network (CEEN), a group of volunteers in 21 community-based organizations. It is anticipated that a "village" of volunteers will provide mentorship for each male in the program, consisting of a male leader and three female volunteers. CEEN is a comprised group of 21 organizations for the expressed purpose of working together and providing service to the community.
The students will receive one-on-one guidance in the areas of responsibility, respect for self and others, work ethic, attire, oral and written communication and other character-building areas. They will be presented a "Black Belt" for the expressed purpose of "keeping their pants up" while they receive information regarding character development. Mayor Harvey Johnson and First Lady Kathy Johnson are the Honorary Co-Chairman of the CEEN Network.
